Surely He Has Borne Our Griefs
The Lord spoke only a few words as he died upon the cross. The Book of Hebrews tells us that we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses. In times of suffering we often do not need many words. We only need to know that someone understands, that someone cares, that someone is there. That is what the few words of Christ as he died tell us. He was tested in all ways that we are when we suffer, yet he didn't sin. He felt the weight of sin- the chastisement for our peace was upon him. And so he cried, 'My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?' He was forsaken that we might never be. God would have all men to be saved, and to come to an understanding of the truth. The Lord did everything for us. He was wounded for our transgressions, and bruised for our iniquities. We have peace with God through the blood of his cross. We can rest in his grace. (Revelation 22:21) |
